TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND TRANSPORTATION

Telecommunications and transportation are two rapidly evolving sectors where our multi-disciplinary engineering teams have made their mark. The strength of this business unit lies in the proven track record of our project teams in the design, building and maintenance of major infrastructure projects.

Drawing upon its collective experience, the business unit is well placed to address the needs of project stakeholders. Our multi-disciplinary engineering teams put us in good stead to guide clients in achieving predictable results for various telecoms and transportation projects. In addition to the review of concept designs to constructability, costings, planning and programme management, our engineers lend their expertise to the shepherding of design acceptance, from preliminary to final and construction stages as well as in the documentation, training and maintenance phases of each project.

Projects

Noteworthy projects completed by the business unit include:

  • Nationwide Fibre Optic Network – This project for SingTel linked up to 27 central office exchanges and seven administrative transfer points. It involved 20,000 km of long-haul SM optical fibres achieving 565 Mbits bandwidth.
  • Blown Fibre Technology – The business unit introduced blown fibre technology which has since been adopted by SingTel for deployment in other buildings within Singapore’s central business district.
  • Electronic Monitoring Advisory System (EMAS) – The EMAS is a nationwide project involving eight expressways equipped with variable message boards, surveillance, detection and webcam cameras, emergency call phones coordinated from a central control centre.
  • Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) – A road toll collection system using smartcards and cashcards at border checkpoints. The reader technology used for this VEP project has been widely used in car park management systems in Singapore
  • CTE Tunnel Plant Management – A Year 2000 compliance project to upgrade and enhance the control systems of the plant in the central expressway tunnels.
  • Area Traffic System – This is an ongoing project to install, maintain and service traffic light intersection controls for roads in the north of Singapore.
  • Kallang / Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) – The ongoing project is the design and build of communication systems along nine kilometers of twin bore tunnels. The communication system provides an integration of FM re broadcasting channels, emergency break-in announcements, radio trunking, emergency telephones, public address and other wireless communications.
